Untold brings more than 90,000 people per night into Cluj-Napoca for four days — 6–9 August 2026. That week, the usual rules of finding accommodation simply stop applying: hotels fill up weeks in advance, prices climb with every room left, and “10 minutes from the centre” reads closer on paper than it is on festival nights.
This guide does not sell you an apartment. It shows you the maths of Untold-week lodging — hotel vs apartment, the real per-group budget, when to book, transport — so you make the right call for your situation. Why Untold rewrites the rules of Cluj lodging
Cluj-Napoca has a lodging stock sized for a university and business city. Untold consumes it in four nights. The result repeats every year:
- Prices rise exactly when you want to book. Availability drops, and the nightly rate climbs with it.
- Distances are measured differently. On festival nights, traffic and entry queues stretch every trip.
- Groups come apart. At a hotel, six friends mean three rooms on different corridors with three check-ins. In an apartment, it means one morning together over coffee.
Hotel or apartment during Untold — the comparison that matters

- Cost per person, not per room. At a hotel you pay per room — a group of six pays for three rooms. In an apartment you pay for a home that sleeps six. On peak-price nights, the difference per person shows up in the budget.
- The kitchen. Four festival days mean four mornings. In an apartment, breakfast is in the fridge and coffee is on the hob; nobody starts the day with a room-service bill or a terrace queue.
- A single coordination point. A two-to-three bedroom apartment keeps the group in one place: one check-in, one entry code, one coordination. Exactly what three rooms on different corridors cannot give you.
- When does the hotel still make sense? If you are one or two people, staying a single night and finding a reasonable rate near the arena. The apartment shows its advantages only from three to four people up, and from three nights up.
The real per-group budget (and where the costs hide)
The right question is not “what does the night cost?” but “what does it cost per person, in the end?”. For that, count the lines an apartment erases:
- Daily transport. An apartment in the centre, or near the free shuttle stops, removes taxi trips for the whole group. The arena is about 3.5 km from the centre — roughly a 35-minute walk, about 10 minutes by ride-share.
- Food and morning coffee. The kitchen is not just comfort, it is budget.
- Parking, for anyone arriving by car. On festival nights, private parking is worth more than it looks on the map.
When to book (and what happens if you wait)
The rule of big festivals: those who book first choose the best locations and pay the least. The practical window looks like this:
- 2–3 months ahead: you choose where you want to stay (centre, near the arena, with parking) and pay the normal rate.
- 3–4 weeks ahead: you choose from what is left, usually pricier and further out.
- In the final days: you no longer choose, you settle for what remains.

Where to stay to reach Cluj Arena easily

- The central area: 30–40 minutes on foot to the arena, or a short ride-share. The real advantage is not the distance, it is that after the concert you wait for no transport at all.

- The free shuttle stops: they are on the festival’s official map and, on peak nights, matter more than “close to the centre” on any map.

A 2-minute checklist before booking
Whatever the host or platform, for a festival week make sure that:
- Check-in is flexible or automatic — Untold arrivals have no fixed schedule.
- You have a kitchen — at least a fridge, a hob and coffee.
- The Wi-Fi is real — for coordinating the group when the mobile network is congested.
- There is parking, if anyone arrives by car.
- You have a local contact who answers, not just a booking number.
- The cancellation rules are clear — festival plans change.
